TX Powerhouse Bullies: XL American Bully Breeder in Dallas, Texas

TX Powerhouse Bullies: XL American Bully Breeder in Dallas, Texas

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Matthew Jackson, and I run TX Powerhouse Bullies located in Dallas, TX.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

At TX Powerhouse Bullies, we breed XL American Bully. My friend introduced me to the American bully. The size and the wonderful temperament made me fall in love with the breed!

What is your favorite bloodline?

There are so many different bloodlines and I'm truly working on my own, but Bossy kennels are killing the game now. They have some wonderful blood!

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Some characteristics of a responsible dog breeder are that they are loving, responsible, and dedicated to the dogs. Raising bullies is not a walk in the park. You really have to treat your pups like family.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

I feed my dogs high-protein kibble with a tad bit of raw food. Victor is a high quality kibble and it does my bully well.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

For puppies that are six months and younger, we feed them three times a day. After six months, the puppies are fed twice a day with treats throughout the day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

You must be careful with how and when you exercise big, breeding dogs to avoid injury. Dog play is best along with daily walks. The bully breed has a high drive, so allowing them to be active is great. I also use the flirt pole.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel from start to finish.

I have conversations to feel out the potential buyer. I don't want to sell to a person that I feel will not properly care for the pup. We discuss price and their potential pick, and then we move to deposits and contracts. I highly recommend meet-and-greets to all of my potential buyers.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

No, but I have plenty that I will be attending soon. ABKC has some good shows from what I've seen and one will be in Texas soon.

What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?

Dedication and focus are the keys to success. This industry is beautiful but it’s not easy, so make sure your heart is in it because it is a 24/7 life.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The most difficult thing to overcome is chasing other people's standards, getting away from the true nature of the bully world, and the hate that may come when you’re in the industry.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

Focus on the breed: get back to structure and temperament. Help support and show love to others.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

Bossy kennels, MBK, Howard Sparta are who I look up to. They have some of the baddest bulls in the game. Their program is nice, and they don't mind giving positive advice to people.

Tell us about one of your main goals for 2022.

For 2022, TX Powerhouse Bullies hopes to better the brand and produce some high quality XL Bulls.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.                                                                       I would like to see the structure of the community improved. I want more love and focus on the betterment of the breed. We also need to get on top of the scammers and people who do bad business.

What separates your kennel from the competition?

What separates TX Powerhouse Bullies is my focus. Not to take away from others, but I am in my own lane, and I am focused and determined to better my program everyday.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

Other hobbies and interests include church, sports, and family time. My family and I enjoy life together. We keep each other motivated.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

Bully Girl Magazine is a wonderful platform for the breed! I believe it's platforms like this that will better the breed in years to come. We as a community need it.
