Seattle XL Bullies: XL American Bully Breeder in Washington

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Kendall, and I own Seattle XL Bullies with my husband Johnny Garcia. We are located in Spanaway, Washington which is not too far from Seattle.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

We specifically breed XL American Bullies. It was never my intention to breed–it was my husband’s. He had the idea after purchasing a female XL Bully from a breeder in California. He told me after the first female that he was thinking about breeding, so we decided to purchase another female from the same breeder.  I got inspired by their temperament and athleticism. 

What is your favorite bloodline?

That would be a very hard question: XB and Khronic line is what we initially started with. We’ve sprinkled some Bossy dogs in a nice amount of Redlion, Hatfields, and of course the origins of Apache’s sire, who was produced by Dustt Mundrick. 

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Honesty! Honesty in everything that you are doing behind closed doors and also to every customer, every potential business partner, and even your past customers. I think there should be some sort of elevation every year and with every breeding. Also there should be more in-depth testing, more dogs in the show ring, and more studying of the lines you started with and understanding what they can produce. 

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

Our dogs eat Victor Hi Pro Plus Classic. We add in vegetables, sometimes cooked chicken, omega 3’s and probiotics (thanks Rain City Kennels for the probiotics! Never thought they’d make a huge difference on our dogs skin). 

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

Our puppies are free fed, and we feed our adults twice a day. 

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We’re very lucky to have enough land that we can take them in the backyard and exert all their energy. However, once a day, every week, I go on a pretty long walk with one dog at a time. I do not feed them before the walk. 

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel from start to finish.

Whether you contact us through email, Facebook, or Instagram, we will try to find some sort of way to do a video chat. We provide the information needed whether it be the parents’ health test results, registration papers, or even recent vaccinations. We do have a pretty extensive contract that must be signed prior to purchasing the puppy. We now will fly personally to hand deliver our puppies to our clients. 

Do you currently show any of your dogs?
Yes! Pretty Boy Floyd is currently focusing on ABKC, and Apache is going to be focusing on BRC. We also have three upcoming females who will be making their debuts in the show ring as well. Our foundation females’ two daughters: Nala and Blue Ivy, and Apache and Hennessy’s daughter, Donatella. Blue Ivy is also Pretty Boy Floyd’s daughter.

What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?

Find as many trustworthy mentors with a good and clean reputation in the bully community. There are many things I would have never known if I did not ask questions. It is never bad to ask questions. It’s better to be humbled by education than to be humbled by ignorance. 

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

I feel like the most difficult thing to overcome right now is the inconsistencies in the breed type and breed standard, specifically in the XL class. I believe the standard is interpreted differently by everyone, and I think that is why there are so many different variations of the XL American Bully. 

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

I think the best way to overcome this is to put more XLs in the show ring. There are many kennels that deserve much more recognition for the work that they’ve done in breeding to the standard and producing dogs that are breeding quality. 

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

I look up to many breeders because they have stayed true to a goal and never changed. ONE Bullies, GAB Kennels, Highlife Bullies Seattle, West Texas, and of course, Raincity Kennels. I love the local support more than anything. They always have great advice to give. I also really appreciate White Knuckle Bullys for keeping me informed about breeding so that I make conscious decisions. 

Tell us about one of your main goals for 2022.

Our main goal is for Pretty Boy Floyd to become an ABKC Champion. 

Describe how you would want things in the bully breed community to be 10 years from now.

I would want there to be more support and genuine love for the breed. The temperament and functionality of a well bred American Bully is one of a kind.

What separates your kennel from the competition?

What separates Seattle XL Bullies from the competition is that I want everyone to eat. We clap for everyone. 

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Outside of breeding, I love to play basketball, and I like to paint.

I love Bully Girl Magazine! I love the app, too. I think it’s great to see more women in the bully community.
