Rockin B Bullies: XL American Bully Breeder in Texas

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Brandi James. My kennel is Rockin B Bullies, and we are out of Rockwall, TX.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

We breed XL American Bullies because I've always loved the breed. We started rescuing bullies from shelters, and our first one was a fun bully girl who was deaf. After she passed, we adopted another mix from the shelter. This second bully came with some issues and had been severely abused, causing her to not like many people.

We wanted a dog that we could take everywhere with us, so we purchased our first XL Bully from a breeder friend. They are Better Built Bullies, and they are amazing. We were blown away by the temperament of this dog. She got along with other dogs and was friendly to humans too. This XL bully led us to fall in love and breed her to make more gentle giants.

I love getting messages from our bully family that has a pup of ours. They knew that the dog would be good, but they didn't realize how amazing the dog could be.

What is your favorite bloodline?

I don’t have a favorite bloodline. They are all unique!

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

A responsible breeder does their research and is looking to better the breed. Honesty and integrity are essential. I also think treating these dogs like family and not a dollar sign says a lot about the sincerity of the breeder.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

My dogs eat Xdog kibble all year round. We will also add raw eggs, berries, and other fruits to their food or as a treat.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

My dogs are fed twice a day, once in the morning and the other at night.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We take our dogs on lots of walks and let them play with each other outside.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel from start to finish.

It's a straightforward process for purchasing a pup with us.

  1. Puppies become available after three weeks online.
  1. Each customer will sign a puppy contract and put down a deposit to secure the puppy.
  1. The puppies go home at ten weeks to make sure they are healthy, their ears are healed, and have had their shots. The puppies are registered with the ABKC and come with care packages full of toys and food.
  1. We follow up with our customers for updates on how the puppies are doing.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We currently do not show any of the dogs, but I would like to. I have a beautiful Merle male, but the ABKC does not allow Merles in the shows. We also have a seven-month-old female that I am starting to train and would like to show in the future.

What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?

It's not easy or glamorous like people would want you to believe on social media. Getting the opportunity to love and raise these babies and send them off to homes is so worth it, though. Make sure you research the breed of your choice because there is so much to learn!

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

It is challenging to overcome some of the shadiness in the bully world. But, unfortunately, I have heard too many stories from people putting down a deposit and never seeing the dog or not getting what they paid for. It gives us a bad rep, and I'd love to see consistent breeders who are honest and forthcoming.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

You can overcome these obstacles by being honest and working with your clients. I want my customers to know that they are now a part of my family, and we enjoy watching the puppies grow up with their new families. I am always open and happy to help no matter what.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

Better Built Bullies is a breed I look up to the most in the bully game. They have helped me get to where I'm at and act as an example breeding top-quality dogs. They are always looking for a way to improve their practice, including new yards, better whelping, you name it, they've tried it or are working to improve it.

Raw Pride Bullies in the UK is also an amazing breeder and the top stud in the UK. He is honest, takes pride in his dogs, and won't breed his females if they don't pass the health tests with 100%. He could easily sell thousands of stud fees off his male Bullion, but he doesn't. Instead, he breeds quality pups and does not water down what Bullion produces.

Tell us about one of your main goals for 2022.

My main goal for 2022 is to show the world how amazing these dogs are and grow my kennel.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Community over competition. Not all of us breed the same dogs or like the same look. But, we can all work together to help better the bully world and show the world how great these dogs are.

What separates your kennel from the competition?

My dogs are my family, and when you buy a dog from me, you join that family as well.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I enjoy spending time with my family and working out.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I am thankful for Bully Girl Magazine. They do a great job showcasing these amazing breeds and the women that breed them!
