Oasis Bullies: American Bully and Pit Bull Breeder in Florida

Oasis Bullies: American Bully and Pit Bull Breeder in Florida

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Emily, and I am the co-owner of Oasis Bullies out of Orlando, Florida.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

We breed ABKC and UKC registered American Bullies / Pit Bulls. I’ve always loved Pit Bulls and felt they were a misunderstood breed. However, I never personally got one because the places I rented always had breed restrictions.

When I met my boyfriend, he had 3 at the time, and they were the most gorgeous and well behaved dogs I’d ever seen. They have been such a blessing in my life and I can’t imagine life without them now. The bully breed really fits my personality and lifestyle perfectly. Last year we had our first litter and I truly fell in love with the process.

What is your favorite bloodline?

Bossy Kennels. We just finished breeding with Bossy’s Bigfoot, owned by Tribully Kingdom and are currently awaiting confirmation. We hope to add some Bossy blood to our program this year.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Transparency and compassion. If you can tell they aren’t honest or don’t deeply care for their dogs, you shouldn’t buy a dog from them. I believe a good dog breeder should ask their potential clients questions also, and doesn’t just sell to just anyone with cash in hand.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

We normally feed a raw diet of chicken, beef, liver and kidneys with small amounts of veggies and fruits.

We also feed “Taste of the Wild” kibble.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed our dogs twice a day, morning and night.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We personally live very active lifestyles, and that is one reason they are the perfect dogs for us. We incorporate our cardio routine with them. So every night we take each dog, one at a time, for a fast paced walk.

We are constantly taking them out for hikes through the forest, swimming at the beach, flirt pole in the backyard or fetch in the pool.  We are always doing something or going somewhere, and they are always down for anything!

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from your kennel from start to finish.

We do a bit of an interview process before we will even accept a deposit for a dog. We want to make sure it’s a great match. After that, for the next few weeks until your puppy is 8 weeks old, you can watch them as they grow everyday via our Instagram and YouTube channel.

When the puppies turn 8 weeks old and are cleared by our vet, you can come pick up your puppy at any time. We also offer training packages if you’d like your puppy to stay a little longer and learn a little more!

We prefer to stay in contact with our clients, create friendships and offer advice if needed. We also include in our contracts, pictures of the dog(s) at least every year, so there really is no “finish” if you buy a dog from us! Lol.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We showed one of our dogs just for fun, in a puppy category this year. We plan to show them more in the future.

What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?

I am an upcoming breeder. However, I’d love to tell my past self: “it’s way more work than you think”!

Go slow, be consistent, do tons of research, be prepared and don’t expect growth overnight.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

Lots of egos. It’s not about you, it’s about the dogs!

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

Lots of inner self work and meditation.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

I don’t really have idols, simply because I want to do things in a way no one else does. I look up to my future self, because she is everything I want to be.

Tell us about one of your main goals for the year 2021.

I’d like to buy a bigger piece of land for our little ones to enjoy and explore everyday! Hopefully add some Merle to our program as well.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

I’d like to see more quality breeders and less quantity. More focusing on temperament, health and comfort of the dogs.

What separates your kennel from the competition?

What separates us from other kennels is we aren’t a kennel, we are a pack. We aren’t just raising dogs. These are family members. Our dogs aren’t outside in cages. They are inside our home sleeping beside us. They are our best friends.

The first 8 weeks of life set the tone for who a dog will become. We raise our babies in our home and put 110% effort into properly training and socializing each pup. We want to create gorgeous specimens, but above all we want well tempered dogs.

Things we emphasize at Oasis Bullies in the first 8 weeks of life include:

  • Nutrition
  • Potty training
  • Commands such as sit, come, stay, leave it
  • Getting the puppies used to different sounds, people, situations and other dogs
  • Leash training
  • Bite inhibition
  • Affection and praise

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I love fitness, home improvement, modeling, photography, and gardening!

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I absolutely love Bully Girl Magazine, and I appreciate this interview so much! Thank you for having me!
