My name is Coral Dudgeon, and I am the owner of Maple City Bullies. (@maplecitybullies) You can find us in Southern Ontario, Canada.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

I breed Standard and XL American Bullies, Presa Canario's, American and English Bulldogs. As a young child I grew up with many animals. Even as an infant, I have had involvement with APBT's. I would say most of my inspiration came from my parents telling me stories about previously breeding(over 30+yrs), working and showing dogs, before BSL targeted our province making these specific breeds illegal to own.

In my late teens I purchased my first American Bulldog, then shortly after my first APBT. I wanted to breed large dogs more seriously and focus on strictly perfecting the consistency, structure, temperament and overall disposition of the dogs. After discovering and heavily researching, my new unconditional love for the American Bully was active.

What is your favorite bloodline?

I'm personally an old school girl. I prefer the look and style of working blood, and game bred type dogs. I couldn't pick just one. However, some are: Chinaman, Jeep, Old-Family RedNose, Colby, Redboy, Crenshaw, and Gator.

I could talk all day, but those come to mind, just to name a few. My dad would be upset if I didn't mention Mayfeild Clouse or Tom Gardner's line. When it comes to bullies, I would start at Gottiline, Razorsedge, Dax, Remyline, RBG and BGK.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

A responsible dog breeder is caring, cares for the dog first, and follows the guidelines regarding the breeds to ensure that they consistently execute successful selective breedings. The ultimate goal of any dog breeder should be to better the breed.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

At Maple City Bullies, we feed our dogs mixture of both kibble and raw meats. The RAW diet consists of: chicken feet, ground beef, turkey blend, rabbit feet, turkey neck, duck, and anchovies. Aside from this, our dogs love a nice treat like fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. The most important part of their diet is added supplements, vitamins and nutrients, to create a good balance. 

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed two to three times per day, depending on the age of the dog.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

Keeping a schedule is important to keep track of growth from our dogs, along with a good balanced diet, daily exercise is crucial. We work our dogs several ways: bite work, simple fetch with balls, frisbees, spring and flag poles, tire pulling, swimming and walking different terrains. 

Living here in Canada, we have to make sure our dogs still train under all weather conditions. The dogs work themselves really. It's not hard because they have the drive and willingness to want to work. Our job is to establish good habits and behaviour, then maintain it.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Maple City Bullies from start to finish.

• You can email or call us to start the application process or be added to our waitlist. You can directly message us at @maplecitybullies on Instagram. 
• Once a pick is confirmed and a deposit is made, contracts are read and signed. 
• Customers will get weekly progression updates (pictures, videos) on their pups. 
• Picks are made at 7 weeks old. 
• Depending on the situation and payment plan, the remainder of balance will be collected once puppies are placed in homes at 8-12 weeks. 

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

No, we don't currently show our dogs due to Covid, but we plan to in the future.

What advice does Maple City Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?

Keep an open mind, ask questions and don't be scared to fail. Plan out your visions. Follow your dreams. These breeds can be hard to handle at first, but with the correct training methods and proper education, anyone can be an owner of these loyal breeds.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

I think the most difficult thing in our area for this breed is finding the proper recognition for their productions, and or program. The stigma around the breed makes it hard for people in the game to advance, when negative stereotypes mislead people who are trying to learn.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

Basically, I would say they could overcome this by networking, using social media, joining dog groups, going to dog meet ups, and participating in other dog activities and local events.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

XXL Designer Pit Bulls inspires me to chase this crazy dream we all have as bully breeders. Gina is one of many people who made their vision come to reality, which is something I strive for.

Tell us about one of Maple City Bullies main goals for 2021.

Our goal is to establish our platform and really plant our roots into the bully community worldwide, starting right here in Canada. Living in Ontario, an important goal of mine is to work with the government to find a solution to this unnecessary ban.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Ten years from now, the bully community will be a large connected family, that raised a new generation of bully breeders with knowledge passed down from generations before.

What separates Maple City Bullies from the competition?

Maple City Bullies truly is not in any competition with anyone but ourselves. We're just trying to be better than we were yesterday and uplift the next person.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

I'm a full time single mother, who created her own cosmetic brand. In my free time, I like to paint with my son, go for nature walks, vlog for my YouTube channel, exercise at least 3 times a week, do yoga on the weekends and eat exotic desserts.

I think you are exactly what we need more of, in order for our community to grow, and be accepted on a worldwide platform. Bully Girl Magazine gives someone like me an avenue to release and express my thoughts on the dog game. Unfortunately, a lot of people are misled, but your publication helps keep people informed.
