State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
Hello I’m Christy, owner of Exquisite Bullys. We are located in Greenville, SC.
What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
We breed XL American Bullies! I fell in love with the breed when my fiancé brought home Chula. She’s where this all started! I went online to look up breeders and I found Top Dog Bullies, which led me to purchase Diamond, my first XL American Bully from Ali. I was so excited I ended up buying 6 more from her, including our first Merle - Pablo!
What is your favorite bloodline?
My favorite bloodlines are from Top Dog Bullies and Bossy. That’s really where most of these bullies come from. However, I also love Rocko off Khan’s Phokingstyle bullies. He’s not an XL, but he’s my favorite. I love his mass, bone and size, so we actually incorporated that blood into our XL’s.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
Well for me, I’m a complete animal lover. My bullies are my babies. Their part of our family! First off, I won’t breed a dog without genetic testing or if I believe their not breeding material. We get them all bloodwork and health checkups yearly. All of our dogs at Exquisite Bullys are on heart guard and bravecto!
We breed for structure, bone, mass and temperament. It’s more of pairing up the best match to produce great looking, show quality family American Bullies! We really want to start showing them this year. It’s been tough with Covid. I also have a toddler, so we have to make sure we stay healthy to take care of the dogs.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
We have struggled with this one. I can not find something I like. Dog food is like a set up for vet bills or long term health problems. I don’t understand how hard it can be to make a quality food. These bullies are very prone to allergies and hotspots!
So we feed Open Farm Venison, and some eat Turkey Open Farm. I also cook them a form of protein, with brown rice, chopped spinach and kale. We supplement them. I usually share everything we use on my Instagram page @Pablo_Xlamericanbully.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
I feed them twice a day. I’m literally my dogs servant lol, but it’s ok we love them!
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
So summers are hard here. They can overheat very quickly, so we let them run the yard and play in the mornings. Then we walk them if it’s cool enough in the evening! During the winters we use X-Vests and hike long walks. They gets lots of play time during the fall, winter and spring!
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Exquisite Bullys from start to finish.
- To purchase a puppy you have to fill out a questionnaire puppy application. I have to make sure these puppies go to the right homes, get the care and love they need, as well as make sure the new owner is educated on this breed.
- Any dog that leaves here is always welcome back if something should happen to where they can not care for their bully anymore.
Do you currently show any of your dogs?
Yes we have been to shows with EL Jefe, Zeus and Chula. This year we will be bringing out Jr and Forbes to the shows.
What advice does Exquisite Bullys have for any upcoming breeders?
Educate yourself. Make sure you have money to spend, and don't try to do this to get rich. It take years, plus a lot of money and of course you have to love what you're doing. I see people do this for all the wrong reasons, and the dogs suffer. I'm always open to share what I’ve learned and experienced with everyone.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
Competition, hate and jealousy.
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
Education and talking to people with the same positive attitude and respect. The goal is to better the breed.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
I look up to Khanh @Khanh_nguyen_phokingstyle, Sam Leam @sssbullies, Ali at Topdog and Kat @Bossy.
Tell us about one of Exquisite Bullys main goals for 2021.
Well our goal is to produce some amazing Bullies, with our own look hopefully. However, that might not be until next year. These things take time!
Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.
I hope for people to become more educated on the breed, and want to make beautiful quality American Bullies.
What separates Exquisite Bullys from the competition?
I think my vision, and how we care for our bullies separates Exquisite Bullys. I think people hide a lot of things that happen. They use these dogs and don’t care for them properly. At Exquisite Bullys we go above and beyond the norm.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
I love to cook. I will be opening up a vegan food truck soon. My goal is to educate, and if we become big, I’d like to start an animal sanctuary with some of the money!
I also enjoy kickboxing and working out. I also play dress up dolls with my daughter, and teach my her so many things to prepare her for the world and her future.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I really love what Bully Girl represents and what you do for the Bully community. Keep up all the amazing work that you do!
