Brawla Bullies: XL American Bully breeder in Texas

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Chelsea Pickering, of Brawla Bullies. You can find us in Southeast Texas.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

We breed XL American Bullies. My fiance has been looking at this breed for over 15 years, and we finally invested in a few puppies late in 2020.

What is your favorite bloodline?

We love Ellis Blood and how large those dogs are. One of our girls is very tall, and has Ellis Blood straight down the line, from the famous ‘Da Demon Recka’ himself. We also love the Ace Bloodline. Our pups are very heavy on his bloodline.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

A responsible breeder always puts the dogs health and well being above all things. They are not just dogs, they are family!  We are attached to each and every dog, and will be doing extensive research on all of our customers to make sure they are a good fit for our puppies. This breed has a bad reputation, and we want to ensure they will be going to loving homes as family members. 

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

Zariel has had severe food allergies since she was 10 weeks old. We have been to several vets to be able to conclude that she is allergic to chicken, and also possibly beef.  We have to order her food from Rayne Nutrition, which is veterinarian prescribed, and she eats kangaroo wet and dry food. 

We have had them all on kangaroo food for a few months for convenience. However, we recently started feeding Brynn and Xull cooked eggs, beef, potatoes and rice with the kangaroo food. They also eat Purina Proplan Salmon and rice formula.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed twice a day, but always leave 2 cups of dry kangaroo food down for them to snack on throughout the day. 

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We have to be careful with exercising this breed, due to the fact of how large they are and the amount of pressure that is put on their joints. We do small walks for about a half a mile or so. For the most part, we play in the yard with squeaky toys.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Brawla Bullies from start to finish.

We are a new and upcoming kennel. Xull will be open for stud use in May 2021, and we are accepting deposits now. Our 2 girls will begin breeding in January 2022. 

• We will be selling our puppies by picks, and separated by male and female. 
• You get to choose which pick you want and put down a deposit to secure that pick. 
• We accept cash, Venmo, and wire transfers. For instance, if you choose 2nd pick male, then you would need to wait for whoever has 1st pick male to choose first. 
• Once their pick is made, you would choose from the left-over males. Then 3rd pick, and so on. 
• Once the puppies are 6 weeks old, the purchase price of the pick must be paid in full. 
• ‘Picks’ are made between 7 and 8 weeks, and the puppies will be ready to go home after their 2nd round of shots. 
• All puppies will be fully registered and go home with food and toys. You can find us on Instagram at @BrawlaBullies, and message us there for more information. We also have an email brawlabullies@gmail.com. We are currently working on a website that will also have all of the information there about our program and should be up and running by Summer of 2021. We are currently only shipping within the United States, and we have a flight nannie that travels with the puppies to hand deliver the puppy to their new owners. 

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

We do not, since they are only 5 and 9 months old. However, we do plan on putting Zariel into some shows!  She should do great things!!

What advice does Brawla Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?

Market with other breeders who are willing to share their knowledge and advice on how to become a successful kennel. We learn so much from other kennels, and have so much more to learn as well. Do your own research as well. There is so much information out there for this special breed. 

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

Find someone that you can really trust, that also has your best interest at heart. Whether you are a breeder or a buyer you want to deal with honest, transparent and professional people. 

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

By networking and conversing with other kennels. Do not just go off your experience with one kennel. Reach out to several different people or breeders and ask for their honest opinion, from the type of service they received, to the health and well being of the puppy they received. 

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

We strongly look up to Monster Bully Kennels, hence the reason we have bought all 3 puppies from them. They are honest, transparent people and really look after their dogs and puppies. We have learned so much from them and they are always willing to answer any question we may have and share their knowledge from their own experiences. Through the transactions, we have grown very close to them and consider them family. We were even invited to Morey and Bonnie’s wedding from their South chapter! Very great people that we are lucky to call friends. Not a week goes by without a text or call to one another.

Tell us about one of Brawla Bullies main goals for 2021.

One of our main goals for 2021 would have to be studding out Xull at a minimum 3 times, but would love to see us reach 5! We have 1 contract signed already for use in May, whenever he opens up, and would love to see him produce a few more litters before 2022. We have received several inquiries which is impressive since Xull isn’t even a year old yet. We are very excited for his future and what he has to offer to this Bully Community.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

In ten years, I would love to see the term “fighting dogs” not be associated with the breed. They are not born to fight, they are taught that. All 3 of our dogs are so sweet and loving. It breaks my heart when we are in public, and we are asked if they are aggressive or if they would hurt someone. 

If our dogs were any way shape or form of being aggressive, we would not bring them in public around people. Some people take one look at them and turn the other way, in fear of being attacked. I would love to see that bad stigma and reputation gone for American Bullies.

What separates Brawla Bullies from the competition?

Our goal is to be able to separate us from other kennels and will be the service we provide to our clients. From experience, we know what most clients will be looking for in a puppy, and we want to go above their expectations when purchasing a dog from our kennel. When you buy an American Bully from us, we want to give you all of the tools and knowledge you need to offer the puppy the best life possible.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

My fiancé and I were both collegiate basketball players and enjoy playing the game still. When it comes to sports, I love playing all of them.  I have recently learned how to make paracord collars and leashes, and will be getting more involved in making them for our dogs and future puppies.
