631 Pretty Boy Bullies: Standard, Classic and Exotic Bully Breeder

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Richard Jackson, founder of 631 Pretty Boy Bullies, located in Bay Shore, NY.

 

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

At 631 Pretty Boy Bullies, we breed Standard and Classic Bullies. We are looking to start breeding the Exotic Bully soon as well. I really just like their structure, (muscle, blocky head, thick bone, etc) and they are just a beautiful breed to see.

What is your favorite bloodline?

My favorite bloodlines would have to be Razors Edge (Demon Boy), Venom Line (Venom) and Concrete Bully Camp (Doe Boy).

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

Responsible bully breeders are attentive to their dogs' needs. They treat them like family. My dogs are like my own children in my eyes.

 

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

At 631 Pretty Boy Bullies, we feed our dogs a combination of a RAW, (Beef, Chicken and Fish) with kibble. When it comes to the pups, I'll add in goat milk.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

Adults eat twice per day, and our pups eat 3-4 times per day.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

We walk 3-4 miles, 3 days per week and let them run in the open school yard together. Sometimes we play fetch with a rubber lacrosse ball (due to how durable it is) for pups 6 months - Adult. For pups 5 months and under, I'll use a tennis ball. I also get them to play tug of war with a durable rope.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from 631 Pretty Boy Bullies from start to finish.

First, I get to know the customers needs, and what they are looking for in a dog/pet. Then, I try to get a good idea if the customer is familiar with the breed, and if they aren't I will help to inform them. Next I ask what they are planning to do with the dog, and see where the dog will be kept. Lastly, I make a personal choice whether I am confident with placing a dog with that customer.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

I currently do not show my dogs. However, I have plans on showing my current pups in 2021.

 

What advice does 631 Pretty Boy Bullies have for any upcoming breeders?

Come up with a plan, follow that plan and do not be afraid of challenging yourself. Push the boundaries, without compromising the function of the breed. Educate yourself, it's free.

 

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The most difficult thing to overcome is finding balance within your breed.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

You have to know what you are looking for. Use dogs that help and compliment each other. Find what grabs peoples (future customers) attention, while maintaining your look. Understand when you've gone too far. Other than that, just go after it.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

I can't say just one person. Many different breeders have bred dogs, that have features I like or dislike. 

Tell us about one of 631 Pretty Boy Bullies main goals for the year 2020.

631 Pretty Boy Bullies goal for 2020 is to produce quality, fully functional family bulls, in route to creating my own unique look and bloodline.

 

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

I would love to see improved structure and quality of the breed, with improvements in performance and endurance.

What separates 631 Pretty Boy Bullies from the competition?

I'm not focused on competing with other kennels. I'm focused on doing my part to make the breed better.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

My other hobbies are taking rides on my motorcycle (Hayabusa GSX1300R), exotic fish (central and south american cichlids), and just enjoying time with my family.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

I think Bully Girl Magazine is a great platform for breeders and bully lovers to share experiences and knowledge of the breed. Bully Girl helps to teach those who are new to the bully community, what the bully is and how it is different in many ways from other breeds that they might associate the bully with.  

Also,the Bully Girl Mobile App is a great way for new kennels to get recognized, and further connect with numbers of people. Bully Girl Magazine definitely helps to make a difference for the bully community.
