Third Degree Bullies: American Bully Breeder

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.
My name is S. Trey Singletary, founder of Third Degree Bullies. You can find us in Killeen, TX.
What type of dogs does Third Degree Bullies breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?
I breed American Bullies. It all began with American Pit Bull Terriers in 2003 due to the amazing qualities such as: loyalty, intelligence, and unrivalled drive.
After a hiatus due to circumstances of life, I decided to work with American Bullies for the same reasons as APBT's. The amazing temperament of this relatively new breed was an added bonus. Also, as a Disabled Veteran, I chose the American Bully breed for my Service Dog.
What is your favorite bloodline?
I don't have a favorite bloodline. I believe it takes infinite combinations to achieve a well-rounded product. Chaos, Gottiline, RBG and Razors Edge are some of the bloodlines I have worked with, to name a few.
In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?
In my opinion, a responsible breeder is a person of high moral character and principles. With those features being the foundation, everything else takes care of itself. Additionally, I believe a responsible breeder is a perpetual student of everything canine.
In my experiences, kennel-blindness and ego appear when a breeder believes they are all-knowing. I try to learn and grow daily. My program and Third Degree Bullies does the same.
What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?
I feed my dogs a homemade recipe with kibble as a base, and additional natural ingredients.
How many times a day do you feed your dogs?
Vader is fed twice daily and Padmé free-feeds, at this point in time. Within a few weeks, I will transition her to three to four times daily.
How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?
As seen in my videos, I work my dogs physically and mentally every day. With excellent genetics, there really isn't a whole lot that has to be done, outside of regular exercise in the yard.
Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Third Degree Bullies, from start to finish.
First, it will be a bit before I have any pups. This gives me the opportunity to allow others to get to know Third Degree Bullies, and vice versa. I don't want customers, I want new members for the TREYKRU.
Once pups are confirmed, I will accept a commensurate number of deposits, and forward the pup contract agreement. I will keep new members updated throughout the process. Picks will be made at week 7, with puppy pickup at week 8. All pups will go home with paperwork and a care package. New members will be encouraged to keep me posted on their pup, and participate in planned events, if possible.
Does Third Degree Bullies currently show any dogs?
We do not currently show any dogs.
What advice do you have for any upcoming breeders?
Research, Research, Research. Thenbresearch some more. From pedigrees, to genetics, to canine psychology, do your own research. Know the standard of the registry that issues your papers, and breed accordingly. Any vision that is not in accordance with the standard, is counterproductive to the American Bully Breed.
What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?
I would have to say kennel blindness and ego. No one has the perfect American Bully, but we all strive in its pursuit. It's fine to believe in your dog and program, but it's also fine to be told where to "tighten up", too. Constructive criticism does not automatically equal "hatred".
How do you think they can overcome this thing?
That is a very difficult question. In my opinion, it starts with the love of the breed. If love is the priority, the ego and other negative aspects can't be.
Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?
My mentor is and will always be Gail Black, from Deuces Blue Pits. She taught me everything I know and spared NO rod...lol. Respect to Ray Berkitt, at Almighty Bullyz for the blessing, named Vader. Also shoutout to Ryan & Nichole Guard, Morey Green and Bonnie Ferguson at Monster Bully Kennels for blessing me with Padmé. Lastly, Katie Red at Increbibullz, Ty Deener at Bully Affiliated, Joe Coe at Ride or Die K9's are also all people that I respect. There are many more, but these individuals have affected me profoundly.
Tell us about one of Third Degree Bullies main goals for the year 2020.
One goal that I had for 2020, was to secure a foundation quality female for my program. We've had her for a few weeks now. My constant goal is to spread the word about Third Degree Bullies, and our Movement.
What separates Third Degree Bullies from the competition?
In my opinion, the work ethic of an 82nd Airborne Soldier, is our advantage and separates us. However, we don't compete with anyone. We work within our lane, and encourage others to do the same. We work every day in every way.
What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?
Third Degree Bullies is my life...LOL. I have no other hobbies or interests at this time. I am completely focused on my kennel, my program and my dogs.
What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?
I absolutely love Bully Girl Magazine! I am honored to have been asked to do this interview.
