Purple Rose Kennels: XL American Bully Breeder in Tennessee

Purple Rose Kennels: XL American Bully Breeder in Tennessee

State your name, your kennel, and where your kennel is located.

My name is Carlos Lane of Purple Rose Kennels. We are located in Memphis, Tennessee.

What type of dogs do you breed, and what inspired you to get involved with that particular breed?

At Purple Rose Kennels, we breed XL American Bullies. It all started when my girlfriend's Pit Bull-mix had run away; she was devastated. I couldn't stand to see her sad, so I found two Pit Bull puppies for her. They eventually had puppies and we fell in love with the process. Some years went by and I ran across what I thought was a huge Pit Bull, but I found out it was actually an XL bully. I did some research and decided that I had to own one. Their appearance, size, and temperament sold me. And the rest (as they say) is history.

What is your favorite bloodline?

I can't say I have a favorite bloodline. I think there are alot of bloodlines that bring different aspects to the breed.

In your opinion, what are the characteristics of a responsible dog breeder?

A responsible breeder must have a real passion for animals from the beginning. They must take the time to learn about the breed, researching health conditions, standards, and characteristics. The dog breeder should have plenty of time and space to engage with their dogs, and they must breed to improve the breed.

What type of diet do you keep your dogs on throughout the year?

We feed our dogs a BARF diet. I understand that may be too expensive for some, so when I did feed kibble, I fed them Fromm or Victor.

How many times a day do you feed your dogs?

We feed the dogs twice a day at Purple Rose Kennels: once in the morning then once in the evening. But my puppies are greedy. They will eat as long as you feed them.

How do you keep your dogs in shape throughout the year?

The dogs play fetch and love to jump over obstacles. We take them on regular walks, and they have lots of toys to play tug-of-war with.

Walk us through the process of purchasing a pup from Purple Rose Kennels from start to finish.

  • We will send all of the information on the litter.
  • When the potential customer is ready to proceed, we send a puppy contract for them to look over and sign.
  • Once signed and returned with the deposit, I will have their spot locked until it is time to make picks.
  • At eight weeks old (and once the balance is paid off), the puppies will be ready for pickup or delivery.
  • All registration will be handed over at the time of pick-up.

Do you currently show any of your dogs?

Currently we do not show any of our dogs, but our plan is to enter the ring within the next year or two.

What advice does Purple Rose Kennels have for any upcoming breeders?

Do not jump in the bully game for a quick buck. Make sure you are ready to make a commitment of time, money, and energy to your dogs. If you need to know something,  ask someone reputable and do research.

What do you think is the most difficult thing for people in the bully game to overcome?

The most difficult thing for people to overcome in the bully game is setbacks. Things happen, so you must be prepared.

How do you think they can overcome this thing?

The only way to overcome setbacks is to keep pushing and be dedicated to your goals.

Who do you look up to in the bully game, and why?

I would say I'm inspired by Almighty Bullyz and Natural Born Trubulls in Houston and Tennessee. They are three of the most genuine people I have ever interacted with. Ray produced Grand Champ Vybz Kartel and his productions speak for themselves. Natural Born Trubulls produced amazing dogs as well.

Tell us about one of Purple Rose Kennels main goals for 2022.

The main goal for Purple Rose Kennels in 2022 is to continue to gain exposure and hopefully enter the show ring.

Describe how you would want things, in the bully breed Community, to be 10 years from now.

Ten years from now it would be great if there was one defining look and color chart across the board for the bully breed.

What separates Purple Rose Kennels from the competition?

We try to make everyone that comes to Purple Rose feel like family. We try to make the entire experience as easy as possible. Whatever is needed to make the potential customer feel secure, we provide.

What other hobbies or interests do you take part in?

We try to squeeze in a couple of trips throughout the year. We are horror movie fanatics, and I love grilling.

What do you think of Bully Girl Magazine?

Bully Girl Magazine is an amazing platform for the entire bully community. You can pick up tips and pointers from breeders all around the world, and have a chance to see kennels that you might not have seen before. Our family is grateful for the opportunity.
